Park Jun-Sik
Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effect of clinical practice of ophthalmic optics students by subjective duty checklist, and to provide basic data of effective clinical practice management.

Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted with 112 students who performed clinical practice and the data were statistically analyzed.

Results: The average total score increased by 0.69 points after clinical practice (p=0.000). By area, communication skills and prescriptions had improved by 0.82 points, contact lenses by 0.81 points, cleaning and arrangement of frame and stuff by 0.73 points, ophthalmic dispensing and fitting by 0.70 points, refraction test by 0.47 points, and binocular test by 0.46 points. Contact lenses area showed significant improvements in openness and extraversion character (p<0.05). The correlation of improvement between areas was significant (p<0.001).

Conclusions: It is necessary to develop and implement a standard manual for clinical practice in which students can experience the duties of optometrists and improve their work skills.
